John attended Rich Hill schools before entering the U.S. Navy in 1943. He retired from Wilkenson-Maxwell Construction, Kansas City, Missouri, in 1985 where he had worked for over 25 years and was a member of Labors Local No. 663. John lived most of his life in the Metz area and was a member of the Metz Methodist Church. He had lived in Nevada since 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Chiefs football, and his grandchildren.
Survivors in addition to his wife Patty of the home, include two sons, John Heckadon and his wife Stephanie of Grass Valley, California and Jack Heckadon and his wife Judy of Nevada, Missouri; two daughters, Brenda Vande Wynkel, Fort Scott and Pam Ferris and her husband Dwayne of Nevada, Missouri; one brother, Floyd Heckadon and his wife Nora of Windsor, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wilma Hobson and June Cox; three brothers, Ernie, Charles and Bob Heckadon; and a son-in-law, Dan Vande Wynkel.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the metz Methodist Church with Connie Locke officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott. Friends may call now until 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Missouri.
