Last week, the Bourbon County Attorney's Office charged Clifford O. Butler, 44, Fort Scott, with one count of felony attempted aggravated criminal sodomy, criminal threat and misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

Butler is accused of trying to sodomize another man around 1:30 a.m. March 24 at 111 N. Judson St. attacking him and ripping off his blue T-shirt and blue jeans, according to Fort Scott police. The two were acquaintances, police said.

The sodomy charge carries a maximum of 20 years if Butler is convicted.

Around the same time, police also took a report from a second man, who told police Butler beat him up, robbed and tried to sodomize him, as well. The man said Butler stole $20 cash and a cell phone from him, police said. No weapons were involved in the battery that left the second victim with undetermined injuries.

The county attorney has not, as of press time, filed charges on the second incident.

Police arrested Butler on March 26. He is currently in custody at the Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 bond.
