Arthur Earl Craig, age 77, a resident of Fort Scott, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the Mercy Health Center. He was born March 12, 1930, in Fort Scott, the son of Elmer Earl Craig and Margarette Clements. He married Carol Reed in 1983 at Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1997. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the V.F.W. He worked for the Aspen Tree Service and in his free time enjoyed dancing and playing pool.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Margarette and Harvey Hosler, Fort Scott; a son, Derek Craig and wife Cheryl, Liberty, Missouri; a daughter, Debbie Simpson and husband, Willie, of Kearney, Missouri; two step-sons, Dusty and J.D. Reed; a brother, Joseph "J.D." Craig, Arcadia; a sister, Claralice Craig, Grand Rapids, Michigan; and a step-brother, Herby Hosler and wife, Lisa, Lenexa, Kansas. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brent Craig, Justin Craig, Jordan Craig, Austin Simpson, Amber Sojka, and Justin Simpson; and seven great-grandchildren. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his father, Elmer Craig; and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Craig.

The Rev. Arthur Schumacher conducted graveside services this morning at the U.S. National Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main.
