LESTER M. AYERS

Les M. Ayers, age 82, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at his home in Osborne, Kansas. He was born on April 21, 1924, in Fort Scott, the second son of the late Sam and Ruby Hyle Ayers. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinists Mate Third Class in World War II. He married Awyn Kaser on August 17, 1946. They were married 60 years. He worked as an owner and operator at Ayers Dairy in Osborne and assistant funeral director at Konantz Funeral Home, Fort Scott; Clark-Taylor in Osborne; and funeral assistant at Clark-Gashaw Mortuary, Osborne. He attended the Free Methodist Church in Osborne.

Survivors include his wife, Awyn, of the home; daughter, Janet DeCocq, Tulsa, Oklahoma; sons, Alan Ayers, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Glen Ayers, Osborne; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Don Ayers and wife, Irene, Brighton, Colorado and Joseph Ayers and wife, Carol, Fort Scott; and sister-in-law, Mary Ayers, Fort Scott.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldon Ayers and Raymond Ayers.

Funeral services were given at 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, at Assembly of God Church in Osborne with the Rev. Michael Krager officiating. Military honors performed by the VFW Post in Osborne. Interment at Osborne Cemetery in Osborne. Memorial contribution are suggested to Hospice Services, Inc., Osborne.
