Dean Heberling, age 78, Yorktown, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 23, 2007 at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born July 17, 1928 in Topeka, the son of Lillian (Davison) Heberling and Alfred Heberling. Dean grew up in Kansas and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1946.
He played high school basketball at Fort Scott and semi pro baseball in Colby. Dean married Ruth Brobst on October 21, 1949 and they moved to Indiana in 1953. He retired from SkelGas in 1988 after 40 years of service and they moved to the Muncie area in 1998.
Mr. Heberling was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. His memberships include the University Christian
Church; the V.F.W. in Warsaw and the Yule Golf Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; playing golf and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Brobst) Heberling, Yorktown; three children, Janet Ault, (husband-Doug),
Warsaw, Greg Heberling, Anderson and Kelly Heavilon, (husband-Jeff), Yorktown; eight grandchildren, Ryan Ault, (wife-Melanie), Warsaw, Kevin Ault, (wife-Sherry), Fishers, Kinsey, Whitney and Cole Heberling, Anderson and Sara, Michael and Scott Heavilon, Yorktown; four great-grandchildren, Myah, Ashton, Palmer and Lillian; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Dorothy Emerson.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Rd. with Pastor Steve Huddleston officiating.
Burial followed in Elm Ridge Cemetery with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
