Halsey Everette Harkness, age 83, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at his home in Hudson, Fla.
He was born May 3, 1923 in Prescott, Kan., the son of Byron Harkness and Nellie Pruitt Harkness. He attended school in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School in 1941.
He married Betty Hartman July 14, 1945, in Kansas City. He was very handy with tools and worked for several different companies. At the time of his retirement, he was employed by a company that installed heavy fixtures and appliances in stores.
Halsey was interested in sports. While in high school, he was a member of the team that qualified for and went to the state basketball tournament. In later years, he especially enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of more than 61 years, Betty, of the home; a step-daughter, Sally Bewley and husband Jim of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and a step-son, Dale Lemons, of California. In addition, there are two surviving sisters, Bonnie White of Fort Scott; and Leta Sutherland of Piedmont, S.C. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
As per his request, he was cremated. A memorial service was held in Hudson, Fla.
