Helen Irene McConnaughey, age 80, Lowry City, Missouri formerly of Richards, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Missouri.

She was born September 8, 1926, in Nevada, Missouri, to William James Brewer and Linnie Jane Simmons Brewer.

She married David Platt McConnaughey on October 23, 1943 in Salina. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1974.

Helen attended Richards High School and was a resident of the Richards area most of her life.

She lived in Nevada, Missouri before moving to Lowry City, Missouri in 2002. She was a homemaker most of her life, a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Fort Scott, a Vernon County 4-H Leader, a member of the Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Deepwater, Missouri, and a Sunday School teacher at Truman Lake Manor.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Keith and her husband, Bryan, Deepwater, Missouri; two grandsons, Christopher Keith, Clinton, Missouri, and Zachary Keith, Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Gilbert Eugene Brewer, Richards, Missouri; one sister, Ruby Sammons, Colorado Springs, Colorado; one sister-in-law, Dorothy McConnaughey, Richards, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her friend and companion of the past 30 years, Herman Eugene Vandenburg.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters, and one infant daughter.

Funeral services for Helen Irene McConnaughey will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2006, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Missouri.

Interment will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott.

Friends may call during business hours and until the hour of service, and the family receives friends from noon until 1 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
