ALVIS 'GARLON' SORRELLS
Alvis "Garlon" Sorrells, age 78, a resident of Fort Scott, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the Medicalodge of Fort Scott. He was born March 19, 1928, in Red Rock, Texas, the son of Hugh S. Sorrells and Lula Voigt Sorrells. Throughout his lifetime, Garlon farmed and worked construction.
He married Doris Shields on January 31, 1985, in Austin, Texas. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the 821st Engineer Aviation Battalion.
He had a lifetime membership with the Disabled American Veterans Association, and he belonged to the Elks Club. He was also a volunteer school crossing guard. Garlon liked to cook, and his specialty was homemade chili. He cherished his dogs, Tasha, Dakota and Stormy, who were all part of the family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, often taking them on long rides through the country that would end with a trip to Dairy Queen.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; two sons, Mike Micus and wife, Judy, Neodesha, and Mark Micus and wife, Leslie, Austin, Texas; two daughters, Traci Walters and husband, David, Joplin, Missouri, and Nikkie Sieckmann and husband, Terry, Springfield, Missouri. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Bill Johnson and girlfriend, Kellie, Colleen Teeter and husband, Dallas, Michele Deloney and husband, Matt, April Kendall and husband, John, Arica Kendall, Kenneth Ramsey, Melissa Micus, Mike Micus, and Kendall Alamaguer; and seven great-grandchildren, Blake Huddleston, Christian Teeter, Mason Teeter, Adam Deloney, Nicholas Deloney, Samuel Deloney, and Jordin Porteous. Garlon is also survived by a sister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.
The Rev. Jared Witt will conduct funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at U.S. National Cemetery. A visitation will be Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. at Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O.
