Wilma Jane Bartelsmeyer, age 85, of Fort Scott, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Franklin House in Fort Scott. She was born January 24, 1921, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Fred A. and Alma Belle Ellsworth Hare. She married Merwin Henry "Bart" Bartelsmeyer on July 4, 1943, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death May 4, 1990.
Jane graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1938 and Fort Scott Community College in 1940. She went on to North Western University and graduated in 1942. She worked at The Western Insurance from 1954 until 1966 when she and her husband Bart opened Bartelsmeyer's Jewelry. She worked there until her retirement in l996. Jane was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Scott and was an organist there for 27 years. She was also a charter member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Past Worthy Matron of the Olive Chapter No. 13 OES, and Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls.
She is survived by her children, John Bartelsmeyer, Fort Scott, Kathy Powell, Fort Scott, and Charlotte Bartelsmeyer, Leawood; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bart and her parents.
The Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2006, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
