Larry Eugene "Hunter" Povenmire, age 56, a former resident of Fort Scott and more recently of Jacksonville, Florida, died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Jacksonville. He was born October 6, 1949 in Fort Scott, the son of Dean Povenmire and Juanita Reed Povenmire. He graduated from Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Community College. He worked in new home construction in both Georgia and Florida. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Povenmire, Jacksonville, Florida; his mother, Juanita Povenmire, Fort Scott; two brothers, Allen Povenmire, Kansas City, and Dan Povenmire, Los Angeles, California; a sister, Linda Sheppard, Joplin, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. A memorial marker will be placed in the U.S. National Cemetery in his honor. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. 201 S. Main, Fort Scott.
