Jeremy Amos Smith, age 28, a resident of Garland, Kansas was found dead Saturday, October 21, 2006 just south of Fort Scott, having been missing for several days.

He was born June 5, 1978 in Fort Scott, and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1995. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and taking care of his animals. He once received an award for saving a man's life in Oswego, after witnessing the man's tractor roll over in a ditch. Jeremy loved spending time with all of his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his parents, Bobba and Randy Shadden, of the home in Garland, Dale Smith of Mound City, and Mike Jefferson of Shawnee Mission; four sisters, Jean Smith and boyfriend, Nick Metcalf, Fort Scott, Sara DeMott and husband, Trevor, Fort Scott, Trista Smith and boyfriend, Greg Lewis, Garland, and Samantha Tavo Gomez, Iowa; and grandparents Bobby and Sarah Parkinson, Memphis, Tennessee. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Ajele, Jeremy, Zarech, Addisyn, Kaden, Garen and Casey. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Bobbi Marrie Smith, two infant nieces, Cadence Atkins and Thalia Lewis, and a grandfather, Kenneth Jefferson.

Larry Shead will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Clarksburg Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday evening at Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Jeremy Smith Memorial Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O.
