Dorthy Taber, age 79, formerly of Fort Scott, and recently of Rogers, Arkansas, died Thursday evening, October 5, 2006 at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born January 27, 1927 in Lawton, Oklahoma the daughter of Elmer Eldon and Frances Elizabeth (Townley) Howeth. She married Owen B. "Sonny" Taber on October 19, 1942 in Chickashaw, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1993.
Dorthy and Sonny moved to Wichita in 1944 and then to the Fort Scott area in 1968. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and loved the outdoors and to fish.
She is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Taber, Albuquerque, New Mexico; a daughter, Velma Darlene Shepherd and husband, Gary, of Springdale, Arkansas; two brothers, Delvin Wayne Howeth of Tampa, Florida and Hubert Howeth of Reedsport, Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Mary Howeth of Fort Scott, and Lois Howeth of Derby; two brothers-in-law, Bob Allen of Kansas City, Missouri and Bob McCoy of Fort Scott; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Trisha Ann Taber; three sisters, Mabel Allen, Velma Geraldine McCoy and Elma Elizabeth Morphis; three brothers, Billy Gene Howeth, A.G. Howeth, and Aaron Howeth.
James Stradley will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday, October 9, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial in the Fort Scott National Cemetery.
