Nellie M. Mitchum

Nellie M. Mitchum, age 82, died Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Fort Scott Manor in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born December 31, 1923, in Perry, Oklahoma, the daughter of Joe L. Mildfelt and Catherine L. Endres Mildfelt. She worked for many years in the Kansas City area in bookkeeping and then for the Social Security Department. Upon retirement in 1983, Nellie moved to South Padre Island, Texas, where she lived until moving to Fort Scott to be near family in 1997. She loved fishing and gardening.

She is survived by two brothers, Gerald Mildfelt and wife, Sue, Fort Scott and Gene Mildfelt, Shawnee Mission; a sister, Ruth Steichen and husband Joe, Ponca City, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Mildfelt.

A rosary service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Father Darren May will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
