The United Methodist Women of the Uniontown, Methodist Church met Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the Church Annex, with nine members present. President Pauline Hartman called the business meeting to order. All read the purpose in unison, and the president gave a prayer from the new program book. A worship center, of a wooden cross, cactus plants, and rocks reminded all of the wildernesses. Devotions were given, reminding each of those present of the "Obstacles we accomplish in the wilderness," as taken from the new program resource book.

Election of officers was held for 2007, resulting as follows: President Pat McClenahan; Vice President Janice Ramsey; Secretary Beverly Geiger; Treasurer Margaret Hartman; Nomination Committee Pat McClenahan and Janice Ramsey; Social Action Committee Norma Dunn, Margaret Hartman, Pauline Hartman, and Carrie Elbrader.

The October Ruritan Dinner was planned. Plans were finalized for the Roxie Draper Memorial Dinner which is to be held Oct. 12.

Pauline Hartman gave the lesson on, "The journey through the wilderness."

A work day is to be held on Oct. 11, in the Annex in preparation for the Memorial Dinner.

As members assembled, there was a banana cream cake made by Pauline Hartman, to be enjoyed with coffee while the meeting progressed.

Will Russell and Mr. Pridy, Fort Scott, attended the Methodist Church Sunday, and brought the message of the "Gideon's" which was well received. Russell said that the Gideon's was organized in 1899, and told the many ways that the organization benefits humanity and stated that every soldier is given a Gideon Testament when he joins the military service.

Church announcements include the Church Administrative Board Meeting and Fellowship Dinner on Oct. 1, and the Roxie Draper Memorial Dinner set for Oct. 12. Invitations have been mailed. The United Methodist Women will meet Oct. 11 for a meeting and work day. All are urged to attend.

At present, members are bringing items for the Bishop's Roundup for Hunger. The past week members brought disposable diapers. This week canned vegetables are needed. Items will be accepted at all times. The church is also supporting the Red Bird Missions, and is asking members to save labels from many products. A jar is in the Fellowship Hall of the Church for the labels.

Church Liturgist Kenneth Middleton announced that there would be a meeting of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, and urged all members to attend and support the students in this activity.

The ladies of the United Methodist Women served a fried chicken dinner for the funeral of Ellen Clark on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Pauline Hartman and Lavon Middleton were chairman of the dinner.
