Dorothy Anne Kirkwood, age 80, of Fort Scott, Kansas died early Thursday morning, August 17, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. She was born September 4, 1925 in Fort Scott, the daughter of Fred Higbee and Hazel Irene Roy Lewis. She married John Thomas Kirkwood September 18, 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death August 14, 2006. She graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1947, and after attending Fort Scott Community College for a year, went on to graduate from Pittsburg State University. Dorothy taught school in Pleasanton, Kansas, for eight years, and also worked as a bookkeeper for the Ford Motor Company of Pleasanton. She was the office manager for Smith-Miller Construction Company of Pleasanton, as well as bookkeeper and office manager for Vince Owen Motors, which later became Tom Quick Motors. Dorothy retired in 1983. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Scott, and active in the church choir and as soloist.
