Massaging my feet and hands
It's not even quite November yet, and I am already suffering from a terrible head cold.
I was told by a co-worker to try applying mentholated topical cream to my feet before going to bed. This is supposed to help relieve coughing allowing me to get a better night's sleep. Though I haven't tried this personally, two of my co-workers tried the putting the cream on their feet for two nights in a row with little success in regards to their coughing spells. However, both say their feet have become very soft after using the cream. Because of this suggestion, I have been researching the practice of Reflexology. The Reflexology information I have read claims by massaging certain parts of your feet and or hands, you can bring better health to specific parts of your body. I have never met anyone who has actually tried this, so I am not sure if it will work. However, as lousy as I feel, I figure it is worth a try.
Drinking a lot of orange juice is another tip someone gave me that is supposed to keep me healthy and free from colds and the flu during the winter. In addition, taking a vitamin C supplement is also supposed to keep the "bugs" away.
I have also heard drinking hot tea with lemon or honey in it will help my sore throat. I have to admit I have tried hot tea with milk in it to be rather soothing when my throat is scratchy and sore. I will have to try the honey and lemon to see how well they work.
For my sinus headache, someone told me to eat a jalapeno pepper. Apparently the pepper is supposed to drain my sinuses, relieving my headache. Although it sounds as if this would work, I am not sure I will ever be brave enough to try it. In researching my options on the Internet, I found several sinus headache reliving recipes which involve spices or herbs. I also found one Web site which claims a hot foot bath and a cold compress on the head will ease a sinus headache. Yet another piece of advice which brings my feet into the picture. Maybe there really is something behind Reflexology.
Since most medications have many bad side effects, I would prefer to stay healthy using natural methods.
