A Few Ramblings

Posted Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 9:24 AM

Hutchinson High School running back Gage McKinnis, a former student in the Uniontown school district, breaks through the line during the Class 6A State Championship game against the Olathe South Falcons on Nov. 24 in Topeka. Hutchinson High School won the game 37-14.
Just a few observations and happenings from the past week....

For the past 6 years I've watched, listened and talked about a special kid that just so happened to be a football player....he just put a cap on his high school football career and I, along with quite a few others, am proud of him. Gage McKinnis, a senior at Hutchinson High School and formerly a student in the Uniontown school district, won a state championship in football. He's a great kid and has a bright future.

The Chiefs are abysmal. Horrible. Boring. It's pathetic to watch them flop around like fish out of water. If I weren't such a football fan it would be hard to actually go and photograph them. But...for now I think I can handle it. Please fix the offensive line next year! And fire Carl Peterson. And don't fire the kicker every other week. And and and and and and....the "and do this and that" comments just don't seem to end. Forget about this season. It's over. If they win another game it will be a miracle.

Okay! Enough moaning about the Chefs.

Christmas is nearly here...and there are lots of presents to purchase. And not enough money. Isn't that how it seems to always go? Not enough money, not enough time...blah blah blah. The thought of winning the lottery often comes to mind at this time of year. Of course that thought also comes to mind just about every month....

President, er, Governor Sebelius is going to be in town Thursday. Maybe she will be the first female President of the United States? Not a bad idea, eh? It surely makes more sense than electing Hillary. Ick.

Cold weather is no fun when short sleeves and shorts are involved.

That's enough for this week's rambling comments....adios.

I'm with you on Hillary. While I'd take her over GOPers Rudy or Romney or Gomer Huckabee, I pray Clinton isn't the Democratic nominee.

Biden has my vote.

You are dead on with the Chiefs too. They are pathetic, and I blame the coaches. You have to score points to win ball games.. (See Patriots, Cowboys, Packers, Colts.....)

While we don't have the best talent in the league, we do have guys who could make plays if given a chance. Bowe and Tony G should have at least 10 catches a ball game. Throw the ball Herm!!! Three straight running plays on 1st and 20 is coward football.

Whatever happened to "You play to win the game?"

Kenny,

You said,and I quote,

Well no wonder they ain't doing any good! They've got a bunch of "chefs" trying to play football.

WHAT WERE THE RECRUITERS THINKING?????

That's probably why they are playing a no passing game. Last time they were ordered to pass the ball they thought coach said pass the butter.

Mystery solved. Case closed. Game over.

yesterday was a perfect example of how they can move the ball when they throw to tony g. he had a monster day. kolby smith didnt play horribly. they need to fire the entire coaching staff and carl peterson. can the qb's and offensive line and start over. move jared allen to qb, let him run the option and throw the ball to himself. then they would go undefeated.

Maybe getting rid of players is to much.

A change in coaching staff can do tremendous things for a team.

A perfect case in point can be found right here in Fort Scott with the change in coaching staff at FSCC.

I spent a lot of time during two seasons with the players when Vaganek and his staff were coaching and I believe they (not the players) were 100% responsible for the longest and most shameful losing streak in FSCC history.

The players want to perform, and will give heart, mind, body and soul for the right type of leadership!

Okay so the players comments were a bit harsh. But they at least need a franchise qb and Jared Allen is that guy.

Kenny,

Tonight was the first time I have clicked on to your blog. Lo and behold, there was a photo of my grandson, Gage. I just wanted to tell you "Thanks" for posting the great photo of Gage and the kind words about him. Of course, those of us who have watched him grow up know that he is a "good kid" and are especially proud. So to hear others say good things is heartwarming. Besides his athletic ability, he has done well academically with a 4.0 GPA this year. (Just had to brag about that since I am his grandma).

seems like there are fewer and fewer young people like gage. its nice to hear about those who strive for things and want nothing more than to be the best they can be. he's one of them.

Just saw that Gage was named as one of the TOP 11 football players in the state of Kansas this past season by the Kansas Football Coaches Association. Also, he was named to the 6A Defensive Squad. S-T-U-D.

The Chiefs do need some offense...maybe in a few years he'll be taking Larry Johnson's spot!
