The Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins share similarities, except for one important trait.

Both teams are horrendous. They're the two worst teams in the NFL. If the league ranked teams like college football, Kansas City is 31th and Miami is 32nd.(There are 32 teams in the NFL.)

Both have a combined record of 5-27 this year.

Neither team can score. Neither team have an established quarterback or running game. Both need major changes in the off-season.

The most striking likeness are teams' front-office mismanagement. In the offseason, team executives did little to improve their rosters.

President/General Manager/CEO/spin doctor/etc.of the Chiefs Carl Peterson and staff did little to improve the roster at key positions or properly evaluate talent via the draft, especially on the offensive line. The Chiefs are rebuilding. Peterson finally acknowledged that in an interview with The Kansas City Star.

For instance, Peterson signed tackle Damion McIntosh in the off-season. He didn't play bad, but is not a franchise left tackle the Chiefs need to get things turned around on offense.

The offensive line was neglected severely. I think that was the biggest factor in the Chiefs' dismal season. It prevented them from running the ball and protecting the quarterback in the passing game.

I guess Peterson thought the line was good enough last year and didn't need to be improved. What a mistake.

The offensive line is just the tip of the iceberg with Peterson.

He's made mistake after mistake managing this team. From crappie draft picks to free agency, which is considered his straight.

Peterson and Miami general manager Randy Mueller both tried to patch up their holes through free agency. Miami signed former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, who didn't finish the season because of another concussion. Miami signed washed up pass rusher Joey Porter.

Here's where the similarities between the two end.

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga apparently isn't like Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. Huizenga wants to improve his football team.

I fear Clark Hunt is like his father, the late Lamar Hunt: loyal and not willing to fire anyone. It's that complacency that prevented the Lamar Hunt from hoisting the AFC conference championship trophy that bears his name.

Huizenga hired football genius Bill Parcells as the vice president of football operations. He'll have total control of the team.

Parcells has a proven record of turning franchises around. He did it with the New York Jets, New England Patriots and most recently with the Dallas Cowboys. He'll likely do it with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins announced on Monday that Mueller and two assistants are leaving the team. They left before Parcells fired them.

Peterson told the Star that he and head coach Herm Edwards will be back next year. Go figure.

Why can't Hunt fire Peterson and bring in a new general manager? It's the only way the Chief are going to make it to the playoff AND actually win a game.

For 19 years, he's tried to get the Chiefs to a Super Bowl. Instead, his teams haven't won a playoff game since 1993.

If a player doesn't perform and get results, they are cut. Why doesn't this apply to Peterson?

Amen, brother Michael.

I saw today they gave Solari and other assistants the ax. That's a start, I guess.

I totally agree with firing King Carl. At the last game I photographed, Carl was announced as he walked to midfield to present an award. At that time the entire crowd, or so it seemed, booed in unison. It's no secret the guy is hated by most Chiefs fans....can him and find someone who is worthy of a little respect.
