Pennies for Fort Scott
Posted Monday, April 7, at 10:05 AM
There's something wonderful going on in Fort Scott. People are coming together as a community to do something extraordinary, and they're bringing their pennies!
The Youth Activities Team (YAT) is having a penny drive to revamp Ellis Park. This is such an outstanding idea! Everyone can donate to the cause. We all have pennies that just lie around, whether they're in our couch cushions, sitting in the change jar, rolling around your car and wherever else you may stash them that could be donated for this project.
Last night my youngest daughter was searching through my purse looking for pennies. Between the bottom of my purse, the couch, the penny jar and the car, she came up with about 60 pennies. I asked her why she was so adamant about finding pennies and she said, "Mom, when I grow up I can tell my kids that I helped build the park". What a smart answer! I thought for sure she would say something about Guinness Book of World Records and how she wanted to be in on that, but she didn't and I am proud of her answer. Both of my girls have told me to get their allowances in pennies so that they can donate them to this project. I have agreed whole-heartedly!
This is such a huge community (and even better, youth) project. The kids are soooooo excited to be a part of it and I think the outcome will be magnificent, and for an added bonus, we're going to break the Guinness Book of World Records record holder.... you just can't get any better than that!
Good Samaritans In this day and age, you don't find a lot of Good Samaritans. People just don't care anymore or they don't feel comfortable with it. I remember back when I was younger, I was taught that if you were taking out the garbage, go knock on your elderly neighbor's door to see if he or she had garbage to take out as well. ...
How To Wash A Load of Laundry This is just a short one today, but I wanted to let you know that I was complaining (whining is more the word) quite badly the other day when I had so much laundry to do. Between loads I got online for a bit and found this, author unknown, while looking on MSN group...
Where'd the time go? It is February 1st. For the next hour and a half or so, I'm 30 years old. As I sit here thinking of all the things that I've accomplished in my life, I've come to realize that the list is not long by any means, but it's very distinguished. I have:...
How do single parents do it? I'm home today. My daughter has strep. This will be the third full day at home in a week. I'm just not destined to have a paycheck. Last week I was absent from work (with creepy crud of my own) for two and a half days. This week, it's my children's turn to have the crud. It's only fair I suppose...
Where's the Respect? Why is it so hard for people to show respect? Monday morning, I dropped my daughter off at school and traveled down the road a bit heading to my other daughter's school. I came to 8th and Shepherd and a car came around the corner so fast and so far into my lane that I thought I was going to have to drive up into someone's yard just to avoid an accident. I couldn't believe it!...
Stress Relief 101.5 This is a continuance of Rayma's last blog. Her blog really got me thinking about ways to relieve the stress in my life. I work in advertising. Now to some, this may sound like a pretty gravy job, but let me tell ya folks, IT ISN'T! My job is incredibly stressful. ...
Christmas Traditions Well, Santa finally came and the gifts have been opened. My girls were ecstatic with their gifts, which always brightens my heart. The dinner was fantastic (if I don't say so myself) and now, it's over. I don't know how it works in other families, but in our family, the mom does the shopping for gifts, the mom wraps the gifts very carefully to make it peek-proof, the mom shops for all the food for the dinner, she makes her list and diligently works to make sure everything is correct, she spends two days cooking the dinner just to make sure it is perfect…she cuts, dices, bakes, decorates... ...
Ghost Hunters and Reindeer Blogger's Log: Wednesday 8:52 p.m. As I sit here at my computer, thinking of wonderful witty things to say, I find myself thinking that I don't have anything witty to say. Blogger's Log: Wednesday 8:53 p.m. Ok, I'm still sitting here. I'm listening to my daughter's TV, which is constantly glued to the Disney Channel, and I'm listening to our living room TV that happens to be on Sci-Fi because Wednesday night is Ghost Hunters night. Mickey and ghosts... what a combo!...
