Making the Move

So this is going to be mostly me venting frustration and rejoicing in unexplored possibilities.
I am trying to make a move from Fort Scott to Nevada. I never thought I'd say this…but the thought of leaving Fort Scott (again) or Kansas leaves me kind of heart broken. I've always been a Kansas girl. Sure I've thought about leaving and actually attempted a few times, but I've never actually moved. Kansas is where my heart is. Sure, I will still work there, but somehow, it doesn't feel the same.
But the necessity of single-parenting often warrants sacrifices. Well, parenting often warrants sacrifices. I am working more in the Nevada office. And my son goes to daycare in Nevada since I couldn't find a daycare with an opening in Fort Scott. So, it's staring to make sense to migrate east, lest I go completely bankrupt due to gas prices.
So my frustrations lie in several areas:
One, I hate moving. Packing, cleaning and hauling. Then not being able to find anything. And I have lived in my current apartment for almost a year. And while it has its ups and downs, it's really starting to feel like home. I hate leaving that homey feeling.
Second, no one ever told me how hard it was to move from one state to another. Car inspections, insurance, tags, finding an affordable place, yada yada yada. It's like a great conquest.
Third, as many people know, I am one who struggles with patience. I want to get this stuff done, now, and squared away so I can get back to that homey feeling. Not that lying-in-bed-listening-to-the-new-house-make-funny-sounds-at-night feeling.
On the flip side, it's kind of exciting. I don't know what's going to happen. Normally this scares the crap out of me. But I have a good feeling about this. And I'm really just tired of worrying and guessing about it, so I just want to do it. A brand new place could be a lot of fun. I could live in an actual house instead of an apartment. My son could have our own yard to play in. And I won't have to drive everyday, which neither my son nor I really dig anyway.
So right now, it's just a matter of details. And time. And patience. Lord grant me patience. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Moving is very stressful. It is said to be almost as stressful as a death in the family.
Nevada is a really great community. I lived there for seven years and only moved to follow my career path at the time. Hopefully it will be fruitful to your career path as well.
Good luck!
