The Undecided Voter

Posted Monday, November 3, 2008, at 6:10 PM

Michael Pommier

Tomorrow is Election Day, the pinnacle of the 2008 election season. Millions of dollars have been spent to win my vote, but I have news for the candidates ... it hasn't been enough.

It is down to the wire and I am still completely undecided as to whom I believe should be the next President of the United States of America.

A co-worker of mine said that the candidate that he chose was the "lesser of two evils." It is my opinion that his statement is the sum of the last three elections. It just happens that George W. Bush was the lesser of two evils for two terms.

If you ask me, this is the product of each candidate trying not to have you vote for them, but to not vote for the other guy. I am afraid for the country if our president is going to have the mentality of going in there trying not to lose rather than trying to win.

Neither candidate has made me believe that they want me to vote for them. Everything is Obama doesn't do this or McCain doesn't do that. Everybody is so mad about Bush attacking Iraq and Afghanistan but no one has an issue with our candidates attacking each other.

It seems that elections now-a-days have such a negative connotation that I don't feel good about going to the polls. I feel like the country will collapse if I vote for candidate A or B based on what each candidate has said.

I'll be up front with you, I don't remember a single thing from the Bush campaign. All I remember is that I would rather have Bush then Kerry. What it all boils down to is ... in the time between the election results and the Inauguration, everybody will forget what each candidate said they would do if they were the President. Therefore, the candidate can make some "adjustments" before they sit in the Oval Office for the first time.

Somehow, I will make a decision between now and when I make it to the voting booth. It may not be until I pull the curtain, but I know that I won't leave it blank.

After all, I guess there is always the option of voting for Ralph Nader.

Lowest rated President in history.

Yeah it's scary or he was 12yrs old at the time.

I'm not sure if you completely understand the point I was trying to make. First of all, I was 20 years old for that election and I was more focused on not failing my classes than what candidate to vote for. The point is that I wasn't very informed and that I don't remember the things that he stated during his election campaign. I remember his presidency very well, I am more educated and more aware.

I was never confused about who to vote for, I knew I wanted bush out of there. I didn't want the same.
