HOW FAR CAN WE TRUST OUR SOLDIERS?

Last night I heard on the news that a U.S. Marine threw a puppy off a cliff. I thought to myself that surely he must have done it for humanitarian reasons. I mean come on, these are our heroes right?

This morning I Googled and found the video. I have never been so appalled in my life. He literally flung this precious animal to its death. (If you have a heart or a weak stomach, I would not suggest watching it.) I am sick to my stomach and my heart goes out to the poor defenseless creature (the puppy, not the Marine).

WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?

These are supposed to be compassionate men that fight for LIFE, NOT END IT! As I write this I still cannot believe what I just witnessed. The men involved should be Court Marshaled. I know this not a reflection on ALL Marines, but this group that participated in this charade cast a drooling shadow on the rest of our American Soldiers. I hope this is not all that will become of this incident. I will be keeping an eye out for justice!

I think this instance is a jarring reminder that under the uniform and all their gear, soldiers are just people like everyone else.

They're human, not machines. Which is a darn good reason to think twice before sending them all into the middle of Arabia with no idea how to get them home.

The following sentence from this blog may be the most absurd that I have ever read: "These [Marines] are supposed to be compassionate men that fight for LIFE, NOT END IT!" Our military men are trained to devalue human life, and above all other duties, they are taught to k-i-l-l. They are the brainwashed puppets of our corporate system, killing people from other countries to fill the pockets of American business. What effect would footage of "our" bullets and bombs tearing through an Iraqi family have on you?

war is evil and dehumanizing. If you go to war you will not be able to escape its dehumanizing effects.

I bet what this man needs more than a court marshall is counseling for PTSD.

The writer of this blog is pretty clueless about soldiers and war.

How about you "google" a video of US soldiers dying from road side bombs and fellow US soldiers trying in vain to save the life of a fallen soldier as he bleeds uncontrollably on the side of some dirt road. Or how about the mass street demostrations of Iraqis praising the deaths of US soldiers and chanting "death to America" while they burn the American flag. Those are the images that should turn your stomach.

Soldiers are killers. They are human too. They have it horribly rough. The months or even years of constant military training, repeated overseas deployments, along with the separation from loved ones all the while living in a war zone stretch these brave men to the limits.

If you don't agree then please enlist and prove me wrong. And not some little desk job. Try the front lines for awhile and see how your outlook on life changes a bit.

But then again, lets court martial this guy and kick him out of the military and ruin his career and simply ignore what he was endured for our country with huge sacrifices that I don't think you can even imagine.

Take another sip of your Starbuck's cafe latte and ponder again what it means to live, fight, and die for one's country. Could you do it. No? Then respect those that do.
