Slippery Situation

Have you ever gotten yourself in a dangerous situation so fast you didn't know what hit you?
Well, I have always taken great pride in myself for having "footing like a mountain goat". But this was not the case last Wednesday.
As I was walking down the sidewalk I took four steps onto the slickest patch of ice I have ever encountered. The ice was like glass. It was melting just enough to put a sheet of water on top of that. Needless to say I couldn't back up (or I would fall for sure). I WAS STUCK! So I HAD to take another step forward. You guessed it. I landed flat on my back. I was so embarrassed, as I quickly rose to my hands and knees and scooted myself off the ice. It probably looked pretty funny at the time, but I actually hurt myself. This is a sidewalk I walk down every day.
Now my question to you is whose responsibility do you think it should be to keep the sidewalks clean? And do you think someone should get sued? Or at least get a citation or fine from the city? We all go through this every winter. It is very dangerous. Look how many people have died from slipping on the ice and hitting their head? Do you think we can do something to fix this chaos before next winter?
Let me know what you all think. |
